Picture Perfect Cosplay – Ariel the little (Steampunk) Mermaid

Most readers will immediately recognize the talented Model and Cosplay Artist featured in this set, as we frequently collaborate to come up with new and exciting images. It is infact none other than The Artful Dodger who blasted into a streak of success after attending the 2013 Brisbane Supanova Pop Culture Expo in this very outfit. The Blake Image Photography has had the opportunity to work with the Dodger on a number of occasions and most recently, an Uncharted themed Cosplay shoot (results to come). For this particular project we wanted to come up with some exciting images that had traces of both fantasy and realism and I think the results show just that.

Location, Location, Location

The location for this shoot was near the Noosa Headlands, approximately a 2 hour drive from Brisbane CBD. It’s a very versatile landscape and would suit a wide number of themed shoots. Unfortunately our timely arrival got us on location in the middle of the day so lighting wasn’t fantastic.

Photography Equipment and Gear

As with most of my location shoots, I don’t tend to take a huge amount of gear. This shoot was done using a full frame Canon SLR, a 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM Lens, Canon 580EX Speedlite for fill flash and a couple of foldable reflectors. I was lucky enough to have an assistant with me which makes reflector holding a whole lot easier. Especially in windy locations such as this.
